Star Wars Day Prep

It’s almost that time of year! For years we have been celebrating Star Wars Day – May 4th – with fun foods, topped off with a viewing of one of the many Star Wars movies. This yearly tradition is one that we look forward to every year.

Celebrating Star Wars Day in 2013

Some of our favorite eats during Star Wars Day are Boba Fettuccine, Endorian Tip Yip, Vaderade, Yoda Soda, Han Rolos and of course, Wookie Cookies. The menu will vary depending on how much we want to eat but for the past few years, it’s been all about the Endorian Tip Yip & Cliffdweller Sodas. Just thinking about it makes me salivate.

Last year, we were so envious of those who got to attend Star Wars Day in Disneyland that we made a vow to be there this year. We had heard the rumors that Disneyland wouldn’t have it again this year but I was not deterred! We would celebrate the day in Batuu West even if we had to create our own magic to do so. I surprised Michaela with tickets to Disneyland for Christmas and as soon as reservations opened up for the day, we were booked for May 4th. To my delight Disney announced the return of the May the 4th After Hours Celebration. Now for the real fun – securing tickets for the actual May 4th date!

We have been to many After Hours events but to be honest, it’s been a while. I think the last one we attended as an After Dark event in 2018 at Magic Kingdom in Disney World. And we used to go to Mickey’s Halloween Treat all the time when Michaela was little and it was never an issue getting tickets. Is it just me or does it seem like these event tickets are hot commodities now? I haven’t been this stressed buying tickets for an event in a long time. You’d like it was a Taylor Swift concert!

Do you have a strategy to get tickets? My anxiety wasn’t tempered by how quickly the Magic Keys pre-sale tickets sold out. I was convinced that those Magic Key members who couldn’t get tickets would overwhelm the website the day us peasants finally got a chance at tickets. Sitting in my home office, two different browser windows open on my desktop, a browser on my phone and one on my iPad did nothing to get me to the front of the line (it was worth a shot!). Every window said that my wait would be over an hour. Michaela who sat with her own laptop with multiple browsers and an iPad tried her luck from the other room. She, too was in a virtual queue with an estimated wait time of over an hour. OVER AN HOUR… That could mean anything. I had visions of sitting there well into the evening my hopes of attending on May 4th dashed with each passing minute. At that point I just wanted any day other than May 2nd. I will change our plans if we have to … but I really didn’t want to.

My original browser window seemed to be the one that was moving forward the quickest and even still, it was one hour and 13 minutes until I was finally put into the ticket store to purchase tickets. Two tickets. CHECK! May 4th. CHECK! OMG 😱 Click on Check out. The window moves to the check out window, flickers and then asks me to sign in AGAIN!

In a panic I logged in. Thankfully my cart was still in tact. My heart began to beat again. Not cool, Mickey. NOT COOL.

In short.. we’ll be there! We’re so excited to finally celebrate the day in our Happy Place. It will be a first for us and we can’t wait!
