Spring Break in New York
A year ago this week we spent Spring Break in New York City. This trip was about 9 months in the planning that started in June 2021 when the tickets for The Music Man went on sale. I told myself that if I could score tickets for the show during Michaela’s Spring Break the following year, that would be a sign that we needed to make this trip happen. And let’s face it, Hugh Jackman live on stage is just as much a gift for ME as it is for her. Well, I got those tickets. I was committed. So, the planning commenced with a surprise birthday celebration in August 2021 when I would spring it on the kid that we were heading to the Big Apple for some serious Broadway Musical Therapy.
Her birthday was appropriately Friends themed. Super fun!
To properly reminisce about the adventure in New York, I will have to break the posts up into categories and/or destinations. There is just too much there. New York City is just too big for one post. I will preface all these posts by saying that planning a trip to the big city really depends on personal preferences. We knew we had only so much time there so we picked out activities that we wanted to do the most. So I would say that if you’re heading to the New York for the first time, then consider what you love most and do those things. So if you love museums, concentrate on museums.
For us, our loves are Broadway shows and pop culture. While this wasn’t our first time in New York, it had been many years since we had gone and the last time Michaela was a lot younger. Her tastes had changed plus with her being older, we could do more things that I wouldn’t have done when she was 12, for example. That being said, most of our activities were family appropriate.
The next series of posts will concentrate on:
- Broadway Shows
- The Friends Experience
- The Harry Potter Store
- NYC Subway / Getting Around
- Museum of Modern Art / Natural History Museum / Central Park
- Food!
- Must Sees: the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, The Statue of Liberty, St. Patrick’s Cathedral
- Must Do: The Spy Museum & The Summit Experience
- M Social Hotel – Our home for the week while in New York City
