Making the Most of a Soggy Disneyland
Rain can either ruin or enhance your visit to a Disney Park. The best way to handle a soggy day at Disneyland is to be prepared and go with the flow – pun intended! I always check the weather forecast before I leave on a trip to Disney. While rain at Disneyland is common, you can pretty much guarantee you will have rain at Disney World, in Florida. In that case, I plan ahead and bring ponchos and/or umbrellas on our trip (see link to our favorite ponchos below).
I have spent many a rainy day at Disneyland in California – even some when Main Street was nearly flooded. But Florida still wins out being the wettest I have been at a theme park. That being said, this memory is from February 2017 at the Disneyland Resort. It didn’t matter how much we wished for sunshine, the clouds sopped us in. We didn’t have anything to protect us so we buckled and paid the crazy price for a Disneyland issued Mickey poncho.
I know… I know… walking around Disneyland all wet and sometimes cold isn’t fun. It’s NOT! Even in the Happiest Place on Earth, it can sometimes feel miserable. I will admit that sometimes I just can’t find my happy place while in the rain and so retreating back to the hotel or experiencing some of the lesser exciting attractions to seek shelter is the price one must pay to salvage their trip. So before I say “grin and bear it” know that I think if you know yourself and that you’d be miserable no matter how many raindrops are falling on your head, do what you need to do. There is no need to force yourself to have fun when it’s just NOT. FUN. When we were at the parks this trip, as the pictures can attest, it was wet. Quite wet. Our favorite memory that we still talk about to this day – years later is how we rode California Screamin’ (now known as the Incredicoaster) in the pounding rain. We had come off of Toy Story Midway Mania (a welcome respite while we waited for the downpour to stop) to find that the rain had not only NOT stopped, but was coming down harder and to our shock, they were still running the coaster. By this point, we were wet as can be and figured we couldn’t get any soggier so we hopped on the ride with an enthusiastic “let’s do this!”
This was probably the most painful yet exhilarating ride we have ever been on. The rain was pounding so hard we could barely open our eyes. The roller coaster facial we received was like 1000s of tiny needles attacking our cheeks. The redness of our faces afterwards would last for hours and the memory would last forever, especially thanks to this EPIC RIDE PHOTO:
Hey, where’d you get that?
The best poncho! Not plastic. Won’t stick to you. Not hot to wear, especially during those muggy days in Florida! You don’t have to slip it over your head as it is full zip in the front! – Find it on Amazon here.
